In this workshop, you’ll learn the basic steps, experiment with a variety of materials, and create one-of-a-kind artworks. Our gathering will culminate with a potluck meal and an informal show of our creations.

— THE WORKSHOP —
Cyanotype is a photographic process discovered over 180 years ago: Paper and/or fabric are coated with a light-sensitive chemical solution then layered with materials that will create images and silhouettes. When placed in the sun, the light interacts with the solution on uncovered areas, which, when rinsed in water turn a deep blue.
In this workshop, you’ll learn the steps of this process including treating the paper, creating compositions, determining exposure times, rinsing, and drying. Once you have the basics down, you’ll be able to experiment with repeated exposures, various papers, time in the sun, and creating layered compositions. You’ll also have the option to experiment with printing on stones and fabric as well as adding details with thread, paint, and collage.

After creating together, we’ll gather around the table for a potluck meal and conversation. We ask that everyone bring something to share, simple or extravagant, homemade or not. We’ll have a sign up closer to the event to coordinate details. To help any folks with allergies, please list ingredients on any homemade items.
