Come exercise your creative mind off the page through the magic of improvisational play and saying “yes!”
— THE WORKSHOP AND THE ARTIST —
In this very special event, we’ll be using improv games to foster our creativity, teamwork, trust, and empathy while also increasing our insight into the human experience, which is (of course!) essential to all art forms.
Improv is about creating stories on the fly, original collaborations that are as unique as the people in the room. It is the playful unfolding of experiences that occur specifically because of how a collective group comes together in the room at that time. It is the magic of story telling interacting and feeding off that very specific energy. In addition, improv fosters a shift in mindset where we have to resist the inner critic, trust the team of story tellers, say yes, and continue to build together. In this workshop, we’ll access our most optimistic problem-solver-selves, leave self-consciousness and criticism at the door, and play around with humor, imagination and curiosity.
Even better, we’ll be doing this under the guidance of the wonderful Robin Faris. Robin spent her childhood “playing” at the Piven Theatre Workshop in Evanston IL. There, she learned improv skills that helped foster a passion for acting, connection, and ensemble work. As an adult, she continued to study theatre and improv academically, in Chicago workshops, and on the stage in Colorado. She believes in the importance of improv values in life like “saying yes” and “focusing on We vs Me.”
— THE POTLUCK! —
Before diving into our improv exploration, we’ll gather for a potluck meal and conversation. We ask that everyone bring something to share, simple or extravagant, homemade or not. To help any folks with allergies, please list ingredients on any homemade items.
— WHO CAN COME? —
Everyone is welcome in The Woodshop! Yep. We want all of you!
