SUMMER BLUES
Fall fades to winter, winter gives way to spring, and spring surrenders to summer: there are conversations between the seasons, a bit of back and forth before one overtakes the other. Summer, on the other hand (if you are in any way influenced by hard and fast school timelines) comes to an abrupt halt. It’s not about the weather—we all know it’s still hot!—but about a rearrangement of time and space, an imposition of structures and schedules.
In the Grove, we like to think that the gatherings we put together—creative invitations in The Treehouse, creative work time in The Living Room, creative projects in The Woodshop, and all three in our extended Retreats—push back a bit against the imposition of structure and schedules that arrives with the end of summer. We hope you will join us for some or all of our upcoming offerings, outlined below and described in greater detail on our Gatherings page.
CREATIVE INVITATION: AUGUST WORDS
Every month, we choose words that radiate out from a theme, capture the essence of a season, a project, a mood, or an experience, and we share them on social media. These sparks are invitations to creative thinking. In that vein, we invite you to write a poem, from free verse to haiku to sestina, or whatever speaks to you, using our August words: CHAOS, COLOR, CONTRAST, STORM, and WORK. Please sure with us via email (and let us know if we can share your work) or post on Facebook or Instagram and tag #grovecreativecollective.
THE WOODSHOP
Woodshop gatherings are highly variable as the projects we work on will be different from gathering to gathering. But here are some things you’ll always find in the Woodshop: (1) A hands-on creative project with guidance from a Woodshop leader, (2) Great community with other creative folks, (3) Discussions around thematic questions geared toward human connection and creative enhancement, (4) A damn good time.
TANGLED UP IN BLUE
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 2026 | 10:00AM to 3:00PM | COLORADO SPRINGS, CO
In this cyanotype workshop, we’ll begin with simple silhouettes, including the botanicals you’ve likely seen before, and then we’ll work with photographic negatives and other tools for creating unique images. We’ll also play with a variety of surfaces for printing, from paper to fabric to stone to clay. After several hours of play, we will share a potluck meal and our creative experiments.

In the Treehouse, you meet other creative people and participate in a multi-disciplinary creative prompt or activity that we provide. Everyone is welcome!
